When I was a kid I use to go to Fran and Izzy's Candy store all the time for my malteds and egg creams but the most exciting time of the year was around opening day when the new baseball cards came out. We use to run from school to our homes to get a dime then over to Fran and Izzy's Candy store to see if the baseball cards arrived yet you always wanted to be the first one to get the new cards then the 2nd series and so on. If you were the first everyone wanted to see the cards then they ran off to Fran and Izzy's Candy store to get theirs. Then the trading would start, you wanted every card in the series but always wanted doubles of the Dodgers.

Yes Pete great times and great memories, but we didn't throw away the Yankee cards we traded them to Rocky Galuzzo for our beloved Dodgers cards. Rocky is a millionaire today, he sold all those Mantle cards for big bucks lol.

We had a local candy store in Vailsburg in the '50's where we all got our baseball cards. It was called "Mazur's" (pronounced MAY-Zoor). The old man who ran the place (Easy Al) wasn't a baseball fan and hated the noisy bunch that would descend on his store for cards. He especially didn't like that we threw the gum on his property! Now Bob, I didn't mean we actually discarded (no pun intended) Yankees........we just traded them for ANY Dodger card. Dumb trades like Mantle for Amoros or Berra for Rube Walker. Hey, we weren't the brightest of lads.

We just loved the Dodgers and disliked the Yankees Pete, there are alot of smartass yankee fans that took advantage of our love for our team. But that is how Yankee fans are they always want to win or think they won whether they were trading ,flipping playing stickball etc we were just not tough enough with those guys.

Hey Robert........maybe you should move this thread over to the Corner Candy Store............I would do it myself, but I'm too computer-stupid.

We'll have to ask Tony because I don't know how to move the whole thing.

Fran and Izzy are now where they belong, in the Corner Candy Store. Everyone can have a chocolate egg cream on me.
