The Dodgers hire Chuck Dressen as coach. He managed the team from 1951 through 1953 to two World Series apperances and a record of, 298-166 before being fired for demanding a two year contract after the 1953 season. Dressen was a coach in Los Angeles for two years before taking a job as manager of the Braves.

O'Malley loved to break Alston's balls with these types of hirings. He would do the same later in LA, hiring Leo as a coach.

Alston knew he hit the jackpot so he probably kept his mouth shut.

I am sure both Dressen and Durocher thought they were going to gtake Alstons place and that never happened.

They probably did but in the end they wound up managing elsewhere, I think they wore out their welcome as managers with the Dodgers, plus Alston was pretty successful.

O'Malley as Pete said loved to keep poking at Alston. Alston always knew that there was someone eager to take his place on a moments notice.

Alston kept his mouth shut and kept collecting his 1 year contracts all the way to the HOF.
