I still remember sitting with my father, when he got home from work and talking about the move and what it would mean.

I did the same thing with my grandfather he was heart broken as I was, we decided over time to move on to the American League and the Baltimore Orioles. It wasn't the same but we had a team then in 1962 the Mets arrived and we had 2 teams.

A number of fans stayed Dodger fans, I have no problem with that.

I do, once they moved the Dodgers didn't exist anymore, how could you root for that LA team.

The Dodgers still exist today, the Brooklyn Dodgers don't exist anymore.

Re: the above picture. I never realized just how close old Wrigley Field was to the LA Coliseum.

I didn't either, it looks about the same distance as Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds were from each other. There was no reason other then Dollars for O'Malley to play at the Coliseum over Wrigley. One of the reasons O'Malley gave for not playing at Wrigley was that it wasn't up to major league standards, then he goes and plays at the abortion they called the Coliseum.

"not up to major league standards" translates to "not enough seats"

The home run derby was filmed at Wrigley Field.

O'Malley also remarked that the other owners felt that Wrigley was to small and too many HR's would be hit. However the Angels played there, there were a lot of HR's hit, but the fans loved it. AS pete said O'Malley saw 100,000 seats at the Coliseum and started salivating.

Thays a great shot, Pete. It shows what an abortion the Coliseum as a baseball field was. It also shows how powerful O'Malley was to get that approved as a place to play baseball.

I always wondered if they had set the field up the opposite way (if that was even possible). Rightfield might have been 251' away with the screen. Duke's eyes would have popped out!
