Had MacPhail stayed with the Dodgers instead of enlisting in the Army, the Dodgers would still probably be in Brooklyn.

No doubt in my mind.

I'm beginning to have more respect for MacPhail, the more I look into it. He took a team almost in bankruptcy and brought it back to life, then Rickey re-built the organization. Without MacPhail doing what he did, there would have beenothing for Rickey to work with.

Nov. or Dec. of 1937. Rickey actually got him the job, recommending him to Ford Frick (then NL pres).

If you read "Bums", Frick was involved in many Brooklyn endeavors.

Just ask me or TonyPug, that book is worth picking up again and re-reading. Fascinating stuff. I believe it's the "bible" on the Brooklyn Dodgers. "Bums" is the definitive read on the old Dodgers. No sappy memoirs, just factual stories from the mouths of the people that were there.
