Yesterday on the Mike Francessa show, a fan called in from Virginia. It turned out to be Joe Hicks who played in 56 games for the 1963 Mets. He was a great guest and told a lot of funny stories about Casey Stengel and the other players. He is now 80 years old.
I wonder if Joe is still married to the woman he met while serving as player-manager in Nicaragua? He spent a lot of time there. Ted Schreiber from the '63 Mets told me about Joe.
After Hicks was on the Mike Francessa show, Francessa sponsored Hicks page, at baseball-reference.com. It's not a lot of money, but I thought that was a classy thing for Francessa to do.
