I highly recommend this book by Joshua Prager -- "The Echoing Green"...................I have just RE-read it and it is simply excellent. If you are a Brooklyn fan, you need to have this book. Our own Donald Papp is listed in a "thank you" page in the back of the book. It's about the '51 NL pennant fight and the Giants stealing signals at the Polo Grounds. But, it's much more too. It covers the Dodger season like a glove (sorry). Very interesting stuff. Many facts about the Dodgers I never knew. Interesting doesn't cover it -- this book is riveting. (Robert: I definitely think you would love this book).

One of the most fascinating aspects of the book is Ralph Branca's reaction to "the pitch".........................his official opinion/reaction changes about 20 times over the years. Prager (the author) quotes Branca many times through the years as to his feelings..........they always change!

I started reading this book on the train home today, and all I can say is WOW! I am captivated by this book. The picture Prager paints of the Polo Grounds clubhouse and offices makes me feel like I'm really there. I love how the Jints had to mark down if they took a drink from the cooler! Imagine telling todays pampered millionaires they would actually have to pay for a clubhouse beer? Reading about Hank Schenz was especially intriguing as I have never heard of him. Robert you MUST start reading this book. I'm on page 25, I'll stop reading and we can comment as we go from here on out. Let me know what you think but dont tarry, I really am enjoying this!
