When a major league picher is "on", he will dominate any game. Hitters can be red hot, but when they run into a pitcher who has his "A" stuff, it's no contest, the pitcher will have the upper hand. It just so happens, the Dodger bats where ice cold in the final 3 games of the 1956 series, AND Larsen was in his groove that day.

I understand the question, but permit a slight diversion, given that we're talking best pitched games in World Series history and permit me to remind the assemblage of Game 7, 1965. Sandy Koufax, pitching on two days rest (not a typo) three hits the Minnesota Twins, shutting them out for the second straight game while striking out ten, also, for the second straight game. and I don't think I have to remind anyone that the Twins didn't bring many banjos to the plate: Oliva, Allison, Killebrew, Mincher. it wasn't a pitching duel, but it has always served to back up my answer to that great barroom question: "if you had to win one game....."
