I have just received the following email from the Cooperstown Ballcap Company:
"After Twenty Years of Making Quality Reproduction Historic Baseball Caps, The Great Cooperstown Ball Cap Co is obliged, by the retirement of our head of production, Susan Whitmore, by impending legal actions and by the sheer difficulty of custom making one-of–a-kind ball caps, to alter the way we go about things. Until the end of 2009 we will continue to make caps from our current on-line catalog in the way we always have. CBC will fill holiday orders as we do usually and complete all orders within the accustomed time frame. From January 1, 2010 to July 1, 2010 as a service to our esteemed customers, we will make 20 caps per week as custom orders. However, these caps will be offered only in the unconstructed traditional style and carry no logo after 1960. There will be changes to the way we list our caps as well. Also beginning Jan 1, we will offer an increasing variety of stock caps. These caps will be available at $36 from a menu similar to our Caps on Sale, arranged by size and maintain the same quality of production and materials for which Cooperstown Ball Cap Co is famous. We understand that change is disruptive and CBC will do all we can to fill your ball cap needs during this change over."
It looks as if they are trying their best to stay afloat but, it also looks like the day of ordering a custom cap from these folks is coming to an end. Sad!

The rich get richer, MLB and the union are so greedy it is unbelievable, what a shame they are bothering a small company like Ballcap. I hope that MLB keeps pricing themselves out of the range of the average people, once sales go down at the ball parks and on their merchandise maybe they will get the message.

That is indeed very interesting. Why would they stop carrying logos after 1960? Also, that should mean that Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, St. Louis Browns, etc. will still be produced, correct? Also, what do they mean by unconstructed, traditional style?

I wonder why it takes 6-9 weeks to receive a cap after ordering when it is possible to make 20 custom caps a week, they can't be that overwhelmed with orders to take that long. I think Susan was the sewer she also answered phones maybe they only have a few employees. 20 custom caps comes to less then a $1000 a week, mix in there other sales at $36 a cap and how much are they making a week not enough to support too many people, they could be working out of someones basement to cut expenses lol.

Nice hat and jacket Pete but the shirt I don't know lol. Did you know they can make hats for the high rollers in 1-5 days and ship them overnight, so this 6-9 weeks is bogus there is no way it takes that long if they can spit them out in a few days when they are shown the green.

This is very interesting.
After all is said and done are we at an impasse then, regarding our caps? Is there any hope of getting one made to our specifiactions from anybody?
Also, I just purchased a '55 Jackie jersey from Cooperstown Collection. A guy I know has a "connection". I need a larger size, but it is a beautiful jersey, though.
