I don't know if it is true but Joe had a reputation of not being that great of a pitching coach, he was there but never got his word across to the veterans.

First of all some really great pictures. 3 pictures above you can see a glove on top of the batrack (Hodges glove?) and how easy it would be to reach over from the stands and grab it. The pitching coach was just becoming a specialty job around that time. Pitchers were self taught and learned from other pitchers, easy to see why Becker didn't get much respect. Koufax has often said that Becker and Alston held back his development.

Notice the Becker and Meyer are wearing their pants long like the players of today, I thought everyone back then wore their pants high, I never liked the long pants look always thought it looked sloppy.
