Brooklyn fans rarely booed any of the Dodgers, with the exception of Duke. With Mantle, they booed him because he was taking DiMaggio's place and he was so highly touted. Then when Maris came along Mantle was cheered and Mariis got booed. Maris used to get booed in Yankee Stadium the year he hit 61 home runs.
