Bobby Cox says he told players in his annual spring training speech he'll "still be the same old grumpy guy" during his final season as the Atlanta Braves manager.

Cox will retire after his 25th season leading the Braves.

Bullpen coach Eddie Perez says he was stunned by Cox's speech before the team's first full-squad workout on Tuesday. He said Cox, who normally never talks about himself to the team, had the full attention of the players as he spoke of his retirement.

Perez, a former Braves catcher, says Cox acknowledged he was nervous to be making his final spring speech. Perez says Cox thanked the players "for all the years."

When asked if he became emotional, Cox said "a little bit, not much."

Later in the year I'll set up a pool to name Cox's replacement.

They've already called my agent. I'm leaning towards "no thanks."

As having controlling interest in the Braves, we can't consider you since the Braves didn't make your favorite list. Send your agent to LA, Boston or Chicago.

The Braves signed 18 y/o Dominican Edward Salcedo as a FA. Salcedo has been the focus of international scouts for the past few years. Cleveland tried to sign him in 2007 but the deal fell through because Salcedo was only 16 years old. Salcedo is rated as a strong defensive player and a better hitter, with a line-drive swing and good power potential. Some say that Salcedo's hitting reminds them of Hank Aaron. The Braves will groom Salcedo to play either third or SS.

NO, NO, NO and NO. I won't even take your money for that one; it would be unfair.

Reports from Japan, have shown that,Valentine has matured and mellowed. He is a brilliant baseball man, seems like a perfect candidate to follow Bobby Cox.

Did you see that blast by Jason Hayward in his first at bat? That was a mammoth hit.

His physical presence is very close to Darryl Strawberry's.

I like it better when folks compare his build and swing to Pujols.

Why did he last to 14th in the first round FA draft, I have to look back and see who the 13 idiots were.

Perhaps because he played HS ball in a southern suburb of Atlanta and the Braves already knew a lot about him. He just turned 20; the Braves drafted him as a high school senior.

He has all the talent, he just has to keep his head screwed on straight. Thats why Number 4 doesn't like the Strawberry comparison.

A rather last minute exciting Braves' win last night, beating the Phillies, 4-3 in 10 innings. For the first 8 innings the Braves couldn't do squat and were down 3-0. The Braves' couldn't touch the Phils' starter Kendrick, who came into the game with an ERA of over 17, in the first 8 innings. Then Madson comes in for Kendrick and gives up a two run homer to Glaus (who hasn't done much for the Braves this year) and then a tying homer to the next batter, Jason Heyward (my bet to be this year's ROY). McLouth wins it in the 10th with a no-out walk-off homer and the Braves become a 4-3 winner in a game that I had pretty much given up on. As a prank on McLouth, all the Brave players left the dugout and were in the clubhouse by the time McLouth touched home plate.

I'm still waiting for the Braves to play consistently and am not sure yet that we have improved our offense much over last year. But the season is young and Heyward's presence brings enthusiasm to both the team and the fans.
